Thea Grube
While writing the declaration, Thea Grube was a 21-year-old sophomore at Genesee Community College working on completing her Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts. She is currently an Anthropology major in her Junior year at SUNY Brockport.
Raised in the Quaker community, She is passionate about global- and eco-feminisms, intersectionality, and non-violence. These passions propelled her to write the sections about the reallocation of military tax dollars to humanitarian aid and the importance of stricter gun control laws. Her Quaker upbringing also influenced her as she wrote the sections on resistance to fascism, protecting the right to protest peacefully, and demanding suffrage for people aged 16 and up. She worked with Grace Irish on the topics of police brutality, environmentalism, and on the conclusion. In Thea's view, The 2020 Youth Declaration of Sentiments is an attempt to represent the diversity and multiplicity of womanhood. She hopes that The Declaration, at least in part, lives up to the quote by Margaret Mead of "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." |

Preet was introduced to this project in 2020, and since then has claimed to have not only developed a more inquisitive mindset on the way she views both her choices and understandings, but as well as the choices and understandings of others. Her hopes are that many people realize that, when this document is read, that there are people put there who genuinely care, and will always do their best to try and contribute a milestone they may step upon, to reach every challenging level that is needed to be faced until equality for all beginnings and paths, is met. |
Deziree Garrick
Deziree Garrick is a incoming freshman at the University of Rochester and an alumni of East High school in Rochester, NY. While writing the 2020 Youth Declaration of Sentiments, Dez felt strongly that inclusiveness was a critical feature that had to be incorporated within the document. Deziree hopes that youth all over the world will see the 2020 Youth Declaration of Sentiments, and become inspired and compelled to re-write important documents that have shaped nations for hundreds of years. The hope is that young people all over the world will be able to right the wrongs of those who’ve come before them, and ensure that every human is included under those documents.
